Hey guys, I've finally reached the point where I need to upgrade my computer and figured I'd have some fun and see what I could build myself.

I'll be transferring over some parts from my current build:

Corsair CX750 Power Supply
120GB SSD
2TB HDD

And these are the new parts I'm thinking of getting

I was wondering if everything checks out, and how it will hold up playing current games.

I was also curious as to whether I should pick up a new case. Does it matter, in terms of cooling, whether I should go for a Mid or Full Tower?

Thanks.

Cooler Master, Thermaltake, and Corsair are always good choices for cases. If noise is a factor for you then this case is a great choice and it has decent airflow as well and as always if you dont like your temps under load you can just take the side...

Don't get the XEON E-3 it is geared toward server applications and not Gaming and general consumer use. E-3's are good number crunchers but not so good at graphical data.

get an i5 or i7. other than that your rig is pretty good I love the Asrock's they are nice. I also believe that the socket might be displayed wrong on pcpartpicker I dont think the XEON E-3 is lga 1150. hmmmm

**EDIT** I WAS WRONG XEON E-3 IS LGA 1150

Instead of getting that CPU,
Get the AMD FX-8350 8 core CPU for a price lesser than that Xeon.
Xeons are buisness CPUs. The 8350 will be better for gaming.

For the motherboard, get the Asrcok 970 extreme A.

Rest is good but you can get a better GPU maybe from the money saved on the CPU.

Picking a new case is always good unless you already have a very good one with you.

Get anything from Corsair, Cooler Master, Nzxt etc. that suits your budget.
Look for better cable management options and cooling.

I recommend the NZXT Enthusiast Full Tower. It has great air flow, great cable management, and one thing I always love, it has the little tabs for your 5.25 drives instead of thumb screws. nice size and will last through multiple builds.

Great price on a great case.

i cannot believe what I am reading.

the fact of the matter is, the xeon 1230 v3 can outperform an i5 4670 and compete with a 4770. note the xeons cannot be overclocked.
Why would you downgrade to an inferior 8350 when you've got this budget to play with?

as for those parts all are nice and will work with the PSU but agree with comments on the case (if you like it don't change it)

Seems like your psu might be a bit of an overkill.
Also I agree with getting a different CPU. If your budget is limiting get the AMD fx series, if not i5-4670k is a great cpu to have.

Your right, in RAW benchmarking I am sure the XEON can out preform but when it comes to real world uses such as surfing the web, playing video games, watching movies, and the all important jerking off to porn. The Xeon E-3 has almost no difference than an i5 or an i7 except in one area.....Gaming and that I believe is his main concern. If he was building a WEB server or a home server, or a Home Supercomputer Cluster then I would say "GO FOR IT" but he is doing non of these things.

oh by the way caleb is kind of right too. if you plan ocing the 4670k is better than the xeon however the xeon is best at stock/locked.

you also need a z87 series motherboard to overclock well.

the xeon supports hyperthreading which in certain games like battlefield 4/crysis 3 means it outperforms the i5 4670.

In regards to the case size, does it make a difference whether it is a Mid or Full Tower? That's the main thing that's got me stuck on what to choose. This one does look nice though.

EDIT:

I was looking at that case earlier, unfortunately I'm from the UK so Newegg isn't really an option for me. Now I just know I'm missing out on a great deal.

Not a good move to go to the i7 4770, if you're doing that get the 4770K so you have the chance to overclock otherwise it performs no better than the xeon except it has an intergrated graphics < so useful with 770 :p

as for mid tower, it will have enough space for the parts you wish to put in.

Full towers arent for everyone but they allow you to use multiple graphics cards with ease, also to use water cooling loops if you decide to upgrade and talk about dat airflow.

Decided to go with a mid tower, since my current full tower can be quite the hassle. Plus, budget.

Figured that looks like a safe bet.

That depends on the motherboard though.
