hi my external hard drive case broke and im attempting to install this into my tower. ive gotten as far as hooking everything up im just lost at the point of installing the hard drive cause at the moment it shows up in my disk management as unallocated and i cant access it. im afraid to go any further as i do not want to lose any data on the drive. if i use the simple volume wizard will this format my whole drive? and if so how can i setup my drive without losing the data? its a 1tb westren digital sata/32mb drive and i have important data that i can not lose on this please help!!

"it shows up in my disk management as allocated"

Don't you mean it shows as Unallocated?

I suggest you test it with WD LifeGuard Diagnostic for Windows:

Note: ignore the drive model shown on the download page if yours is not that model. It doesn't matter.

Important data should be saved on at least two hard drives at all times. One is not enough!
