Does the Antec 900 case commonly have electrical problems with its front audio ports / front audio header connector?
About 2 weeks ago I took an old build that I had (Intel DX58S0 motherboard with a Core i7 920) and transplanted it into a new Antec 900 case.
For about a week everything went along swimmingly until I decided to plug in headphones and a mic. The system immediately rebooted and then proceeded to a black screen with a blinking white cursor. Try as I might, I couldn't salvage it (take a look at this superuser thread for details).
So I have purchased a new motherboard, processor and RAM and I will replace the guts of the system this week.
I am afraid of connecting the front audio header to the new system as it blew out my old system quite nicely.
Is it possible that my 4.5-5 year old motherboard combined with a "newer" HD Audio header on the front header is what caused this issue? Want to be sure about this before I connect anything to the front audio of my "new" build.
