Hello!

I would like to get a performance boost by adding an SSD drive to my HP Pavilion DV7 laptop, but I am wondering if there are special requirements for laptop SSD's?

Or are they all standardized in terms of size and fit? One size fits all design with SSD's or what?

If so, what would be recommended for a really top performing SSD drive these days?

Thank you!

There are no special requirements for laptops. If you are buying new, You shouldn't have any problems as all SSDs now have standardized measurements.

I would recommend the Samsung drives. If your budget is tight, get the 840 Evo with a 3 year warranty. I f you want the best performance, get the 840 Pro which comes with a 5 year warranty.

I upgraded my HP Pavilion DV7 with an SSD. It was super easy! Because the DV7 has 2 hard drive bays I was able to replace the boot drive with the SSD and then clone the boot drive to the SSD and then reformat the old boot drive as a backup drive. SOOO much faster now. I think I used the Kingston V300 120gb but apparently people have problems with them but I haven't noticed anything. Although lately I have had it freeze up a few times and need rebooting. Maybe it is failing! glad that everything is backedup to the old hard drive!

Perfect! That's just what I was looking to accomplish, drdeathly!

How did you clone the old drive to the SSD? I'd prefer not to start all over with all the installations. Thanks, mate!

drdeathly,

Please share with the rest of the class about how you cloned the hard drive.

Thanks
