Motherboard: Jetway A55M/A55M1
OS: Windows 8 Pro x64

Solution
Boo, Hiss, took Jetway had a link that took me to the wrong mobo, one w/ four slots, so my bad, should have caught that, sorry bout that - yes this should take the 4 GB sticks fine, might blow out the slots w/ compressed air

Try moving the memory sticks around to isolate whether it's the stick or the slot that is bad. Possibly use a second computer if available. These things happen. You could also use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts on the bottom of the sticks (remove erased crumbs) and then install & remove the sticks to the slots a few times to remove oxide from the contacts.

Was a thought, most have a max as determined by total number of max / slots = max per slot, some have bypassed that via BIOS updates....if it was working at 8GB, can try reseating sticks (make sure slots are clean) and if need be a slight raise in voltages of DRAM and MC
