My external hard drive just went full retard on me and now I can't access the disk and it gave me a couple errors when trying to open it in multiple occasion, the first one said I need to format the disk to be able to use it which I dont want to do, the second error it gave me was something like "The Parameter is incorrect" and the third one showed me this error "data error (cyclic redundancy check)".

I have tried shutting both my PC and HDD, using a my laptop to check if my OS was at fault, I did the 'chkdsk G: /r' in the cmd. Which run fine for the first 10 hours then froze at stage 4 at 12 percent complete with 284205 of 284400 processed, it was stuck on this for 3 hours and decided to close it. Should I let it continue? 3 hours in the same number seems like its stuck.

The other one that seemed to work was the program called 'Find and Mount' I was able to access my files in the HDD but the one folder I need to access said something about it being corrupt, I also cant transfer my data from the HDD since its a 1.5TB HDD cause I dont have room for it nor do I have the funds to buy a new one. I also dont know what to do after mounting HDD.

Is there a way to fix this to how it was? I have over 400GB+ of steam games in this HDD and all my films, videos, anime and torrents.

Solution
Put the drive aside and do not touch it until you have the funds to purchase another drive to restore to.
You never restore to the drive you are recovering your files from.

Lastly, you need to remember that important files need to be backed up, ie - stored on more than 1 device. At least theres no irreplaceable family pictures and videos on this drive. It sounds like theres nothing there you couldn't gather together again - it'd just be a royal pain.

Thanks, probably my best option considering. Do you have any suggestion for a new HDD? This external hard drive was dropped, should I keep using it after recovering the files and formatting it?
