New computer - Really irritating problems

Okay well basically the problems i have been having with my newly built computer seem to fall into two separate categories.
The first - it switches off the monitor at a random time, often right after typing in my password and hitting 'enter', sometimes it loads the desktop and then after a couple of seconds of desktop the monitor is switched off.
The monitor completely gets a 'no signal' but the computer stays on. I have read about a possible fix on another post here, but im'm not entirely sure hwo to implement it. it tells me that i need to change the default screen resolution down a bit. but i'm having trouble because i can't even log in for more than a few seconds before requiring a full restart with safe mode, windows startup repair etc...

The second, and similar problem, is randomly while operating, my computer makes the monitor go to 'no signal' however, this time (some?) of the fans max out, creating quite a racket. This happens at seemingly random times while the computer is being used, or while its completely idle on the bios settings or on safe mode to get rid of the first problem, or on windows startup repair.

Its very irritating. The first problem only started recently whereas the second has been happening since i first connected it to a monitor.

The graphics card is a PNY gtx 580, and im using a pretty standard 1080p monitor. I have installed the latest nvdia drivers for the card, which is pretty much when the first problem started happening. However, before it obviously operated in a very restricted 800x600 res with pathetic graphics power because my cpu is an amx fx-series cpu (and has no onboard graphics?). Alsoi might mention i have a corsair 500w psu which is pretty close to full load with my system's specs. but i wouldn't expect such a bad drop from simply logging in and loading up windows. Also when reading about psu low power, i see more things about the computer randomly turning of instantly, but thats not whats happening here - only the monitor loses connection. the pc's fans are still spinning, hdd light is flickering, still plays sound out of the speakers etc... just no graphics output.

Im lost for what to do - any ideas?

I would run the computer for awhile using onboard graphics or another GPU. It sounds like something may be wrong with your GTX580.

Your motherboard may have integrated graphics for simple video output, check on that.

And your build won't pull near 500w of power, even at 100% load.

You can always try resetting the BIOS, just unplug the PC, remove the CMOS battery for about a minute, then pop it back in.

Okay thank you both of you. So basically what your saying is first try to go onto the safe mode in windows and ?disable? the gtx580 then boot in normal mode adjust whatever properties the other posts said then try that? okay well i will try that. Also just now i took off the side, and took the gpu out then put it back in, pushed the power supply cables a little etc.. and now i havn't come across the first problem, only the second thundering loud fans problem but unfortunatly also almost always just as it turns on. i hope the gtx 580 isnt faulty but how could i find out the sympoms? Also i havn't changed anything in the bios, could resetting the CMOS battery thingy still help?

Also i just found a thread about a few people having similar 100% fan monitor no signal problems with other gtx5xx cards - no mention of a gtx 580 specifically but alot of gtx 560 ti and 570. this may be due to the popularity of those cards though

Just remove the GPU altogether, don't bother going through all that to disable it.

And resetting the BIOS may help, it could have gotten messed up. It won't hurt anything to do it, which is why I suggested it.

The monitor is still plugged into the gpu, theres no graphics slots on the motherboard I/O sheild at all only usb ps/2 lan and audio

Hmmmm interestingly i just booted it up for the hundredth time after disabling the graphics card then re-enabling it, and it sucessfully booted to desktop. Im wondering if i should consider it 'fixed' or play around with the settings :/

If there is no HDMI, DVI or VGA on the motherboard io shield then that board does not support onboard graphics. I would try to get your hands on another GPU, something old that is known to be good. Use the computer in all the scenarios that made it crash. If it does not do anything weird you can narrow the issue down to the GTX580 or the drivers.

Ahh, didn't know that. Usually there is video out on the motherboard. Might as well try resetting the BIOS. Just make sure you have the PC unplugged and you leave the battery out about a minute or so.

The CMOS looks like an oversized watch battery on the motherboard, you can't miss it

There's just a small clip securing it in place.

you can clear the cmos ram by shorting this while the system is off. Afterwards open the jumper... dont do this while the system is on....

yeah i cant see something like a quick 'cmos battery' google images threw up.
Sorry this motherboard seems to have it in for me hehe

The referenced component is a pair of pins. thats it. :/

The motherboard has to have a battery lol it's what keeps the settings intact when you unplug the PC. But you can do the jumper as well. just use a screw driver to make contact with those two pins.

Okay well it seems that it was at least a partial sucess - The pc is now booted to the desktop with the black and white consoley text having told me that yes, the cmos jumper switch was used and the settings were sucessfully reset. i hope that this is the end of my problems hehe

EDIT:
hahahaha i just tried to stress test the computer by running the only game i got onto the hdd before all of this began - Minecraft. it failed to open because
"the system date is before xxxxxx date, when minecraft was made"

Sure hate me - i like minecraft

Also i noticed windows has decided this build of windows is not genuine. No doubt caused by the system time changing again, along with the other BIOS settings stuff. I won't task you with finding these things out im sure its plastered all over the internet.

lol that's funny, I didn't know that could happen. You can get back into the BIOS and setup the date and time, completely forgot that may be a problem!

Okay well unfortunately after a while of using the computer, it did the same thing as problem 2 - the gpu fan went to 100% and the screen no- connected again

its less often at least, and i can login now

What kind of temperatures is your GPU and CPU getting? And do you have a link to the one fix you were talking about?

EDIT:
I did check the gpu temps as it turned on - 35 degress idle: pretty normal
Then seeing as i have no cpu monitor utility installed yet i rebooted into the bios and it told me the cpu was surprisingly at 51 degress - on the bios screen. Ill leave it for tonight now, and check the thermal paste and the heatsink contact tomorrow afternoon. I don't imagine that could be the cause of this specific problem but maybe. perhaps the pci-e controllers are getting shut down by heat... i have no idea about this sort of stuff this is the first time i ever built a system with a gpu in it

Anyway yes, im going to be signing off for tonight. ill be here tomorrow evening hopefully if nothing comes up, so ill try to fix it then.
