Title says it all. I just got an XFX r9 280x off craigslist, and it works great! however, I was hoping to try overclocking, and with my tube of mx-4 in the mail for my CPU, I'll have some leftover to use on an aftermarket cooler for my 280x...where do I start?

Not sure what size will definitely fit the model I have, or if I need it, since the XFX is the dual D version...thoughts?

So does the gpu you bought already have an aftermarket cooler on it? if so, then no need to touch it, the thermal performance will already be fine and good for overclocking anyways.

You could get the kraken g10 watercooling kit for the card, OR the accelero hybrid. both fit and both do a great job of cooling, but cost $80 and $140 respectively.

you will only see a slight performance gain with these options over the cooler that the card you have came with. if you are really worried about temps, just take the cooler off of the card, clean off the stock thermal paste, and reapply with your mx-4 thermal paste (youtube a tutorial and you will be fine)

the dual d cooler is already an aftermarket cooler. The 280x doesnt even come with a stock cooler like the 290 and 290x do. Personally i would say just save your money, because changing the cooler is often a big hastle for little gain. just change the thermal paste to save a few degrees. best option for the money, otherwise you might as well have just bought a faster card

Cool. I was wondering if the paste might be a good solution. Thanks, you two.

I've replaced the paste on gpu's before and temps dropped at least 2-3 C.
