ASRock Z87 Extreme4 ATX LGA1150

vs ASRock B85 Pro4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

trying to choose between these two motherboards. Any help would be appreciated and explanations on why you think so. Thanks =D

p.s. my new computer is not just a Gaming computer. it's going to be doing alot of video production work and gameplay stuff.

You got it.

Depends on your needs. What CPU are you planning to put in there?

You mentioned video editing which can be CPU intensive and if you have the time to invest in setting it up it may be worth getting the Z87 chipset.

Otherwise the i7-4700 is still fast out of the box. If you decide to overclock make sure you read up before hand.. most of it can be automatic on the motherboard but make sure you put good thermal paste on the CPU and GFX chip.

Read up on what other people have found works with your CPU to avoid burning out too son.

Well not sure what you mean by the title..."Which CPU is better" Both of those motherboards take an intel haswell CPU. As far as the boards go, the Z87 will have a lot more options (and cost more) including overclocking ability.

Those are motherboards not CPUs

The Pro4 has a lesser chipset which has less features.

The Extreme4 has a better chipset for overclocking

They are both pretty similar but just make sure the one you have has enough USB 3 ports / eSATA or whatever you like

Here is a good link to describe the different chipsets and how they are used... It's worth the read in case you don't need the extra features you can save a good amount on the motherboard..

lol agreed with whitecat..

it pushes the hardware and if you aren't on top of what you are doing your investment will shrink daily.. the i7-4700 is plenty of speed and the gain wouldn't be worth it IMHO unless you're a hardcore gamer or are willing to risk it for bleeding edge speed
