Asus Z87-PRO - CPU Fan not spinning

Hello everybody,

I just put together a new PC, with some issues http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1986809/build-asus-z87-pro-code.html#xtor=EPR-8809

Once these issues have been fixed, I noticed that the CPU fan spins when I tested my hardware out of the box.
Once I put all the components in the case, made all the connections and started the system, I notices that the CPU fan won't spin, it turns for 1 second then stops for a bit, start again for 1 second etc...
At first I thought it was normal but in the middle of installing drivers the PC rebooted to the POST telling me that there was a CPU Fan error, the CPU was too hot (about 90°C / 194°F).

I checked that no cables were in the fan's way, also checked the connection to the motherboard was made properly

I went into the biossettings (advanced) and had a play with the fan speed controller, but it did not work.
The CPU fan is the one that came with the CPU an Intel i7 - 4770

Is there something that I missed in the BIOS configuration?

Thank you in advance for your help

Did you make sure you plugged the CPU fan in the correct spot, refer to your motherboard manual
  2. Yes the CPU fan is plugged into the correct spot. The bios receives info when it spins for 1 second then loses the info ( the info is the spinning speed)
  3. After more testing, I noticed that the CPU fan doesn't spin when the system is sitting vertically, when I turn it on it gives me a CPU fan error.
If I lay the system on the table, the fan spins and everything works perfectly.

I checked all the motherboard's screws were tight enough - I found one loose and fixed it

I took away the CPU, cleaned the thermal paste and reinstalled CPU and heat sink, reapplied thermal paste, made sure that the legs of the heat sink were clicking properly in the board
The issue still persists - CPU fan error when system is sitting up right, no error when the system lies down

    Has anyone experienced this issue?
    What could be causing it?
The only thing I can think of related to gravity would be the weight of the heat sink is too much for the board, but I got the one that came with the CPU (intel i7), so it is not something overboard

Any suggestion would be gratly appreciated

    Cheers,

  4. After more testing I decided that the fan was somehow faulty, the intel coming with the CPU is not the best.
I replaced it and the system works like a charm
