i have been having random bsod's possibly related to acpi.sys according to whocrashed.exe, they have been happening with no reason such as programs installed or hardware changes and seem to happen mostly right after powering on my pc and logging in. the BSOD code is 1000007e, the dumpfiles can be found here: http://www.fileswap.com/dl/LWeT2arxOb/ , and here: http://www.filedropper.com/minidump , the zip contains all of the minidumps from this month. Thx in advanced!

basic specs:
Dell Studio 1737
Core2Duo Processor @2.00
4gb Ram
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
AMD Radeon graphics
1TB Hard Drive

i clean my fan at least once a month because i have cats. ive done this for years with all of my laptops, and i just cleaned it this week and oiled it last month, the fan is fine. the bluescreens happen right after a boot and login, so the computer is still cold, and it doesn't happen every time i boot, but thats when the bsod occurs. i will run memtest and see if that shows anything. since it may be acpi.sys, should i copy and replace the file with the one on the windows reinstall disk and see if that helps?

cab files dont worry me too much, but they are a pain at times for extracting in mass volumes, its a little late tonight so i will probably try the system repair tomorrow, and possibly run memtest with more passes as well. thank you for responding so quickly! i really appreciate your help, and will post the results of the system repair hopefully tomorrow, i am glad that there are techies smarter than me to help with these things :)

i did not mean to set your last comment as the solution as i am not sure that it is solved yet, i pushed that button in mistake of the reply button(not used to tomshardware forum), and i cant find an undo button, sorry about that one. Back on topic, i ran memtest and it came back with no errors, so i reseated the RAM and flipped them around since the only one with the dell sticker was in slot 2, i doubt it matters where a silly sticker is placed, but hey, it gave me an excuse to flip them around. I also ran startup repair, as that was the only useful thing that i saw in the system repair disk menu, and i assumed thats what you meant for system repair, and it returned no errors. No errors with chkdsk either. I found another suggestion when searching for "repairing system files" on google and that was to run "sfc /scannow" in CMD and it came back with this

"C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of th
em.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"

And in turn gave me another file that i do not know how to read, but it can be done in notepad, i just dont know where it lists the files fixed and not fixed

it is uploaded here: http://www.fileswap.com/dl/LpQ2Wmu6jO/

i havent had another BSOD since i did the tests, but they are random. despite the fact i have no way to trigger them as i please, i will be restarting to fix the files that it needs, since i havent yet, then i will be doing my best to trigger the BSOD, and lately it has been happening all too often, so i dont think it will be too hard. i shall still post any results on the BSOD's on this forum when i get them.

the bluescreens started come to think of it, when i updated my bios, i know that seems like a big thing to miss but i don't think its because of that. the reason i don't think that's a cause is that i downgraded the bios to the previous version and the bluescreens stayed. shortly after the bsod's began my bios battery died, and not knowing how to properly pop the battery out, i broke off the positive terminal from the board, i plan to resolder it, but haven't got around to it. Could a nonexistent cmos battery cause any trouble, even though it was after the bsod's?

the time is saved as long as i keep the system battery in the laptop, i got a battery on christmas, then it stopped complaining on a dead bios battery, i replaced the dead bios battery, but as i said, i managed to break a terminal so it isnt usable at the moment. when i clean my fan or work on other things inside it, i remove the battery and the date is reset to 2008 or 2009, then i dont think of looking at the date, and google will not load with an incorrect system date until it is fixed. so far, i havent been able to trigger the BSOD, i cant say it is fixed as there is no event that i found to specifically cause a BSOD, and ill give it some time, and see if it is solved from the sfc /scannow process, i can hope, but i have no guarantee that it is fixed yet. A full reinstall is a definite last resort, because even though i have windows and my data partitioned seperately, the programs themself take over 4 hours to reinstall, since i have games as well. if there are any changes or bsods i will post info here

here is an update on the progress so far
i have separated the sfc scan's results from the cbs log, then further separated the unresolved corrupted system files from that, this is the results of the unrepaired system files:
fdeploy.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64"\[l:22{11}]"fdeploy.dll
gpedit.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64"\[l:20{10}]"gpedit.dll"
fde.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64"\[l:14{7}]"fde.dll"
gptext.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64"\[l:20{10}]"gptext.dll"

i then found that the entire windows library is stored on the windows disk for each version of windows, in sources/install.wip. when you open install.wip with 7zip, you are presented with 4 folders labeled 1-4 and a database file to tell you which goes to what win7 version, for premium, it is 3 on my disk. when you open the folder, it looks essentially like your complete c:\ drive and all the files are there. i pulled the 4 files out and acpi.sys as well and will be replacing them after i post this, i have also had 2 more bsods, with the same code as before. i will hopefully get this solved without a reinstall, but i cant guarantee. i will get back after replacing the files, just wanted to keep updated.

i replaced all the files listed on the last post with the ones on the disk, restarted, and reran "sfc /scannow" and it now reports no errors. I've tried to find a surefire trigger for the BSOD's but i have not come across one yet. i can tell you that when the BSOD does happen, it ALWAYS happens coming out of either Hibernation or Sleep, about 3-15 seconds after i type in my password, right after it starts to show my desktop wallpaper. the hard thing about telling if the problem is solved, is that it doesnt happen every time. sometimes it will do it every time i turn on my pc, and sometimes it will be fine for a while. it was behaving so well for the last few days, that i was convinced it was fixed, then right as i turned on the pc in the morning, it did it again...

i'm running out of ideas fast and i'm starting to think of trying a reinstall, if i do end up doing that, is there any way to backup my program files and maybe the registry/registry entries and just snap them into their places when the reinstall is finished, so i don't have to reinstall everything again, and if that did work, is there a possibility that doing so could bring back the corrupted file causing the bluescreens?
