Hello,

I need information on what to do please help!!!

ok here goes, I am a nurse an LPN and I want to go to school for IT but where do I start, do I go for

Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology
Associate of Science in Information Technology

I have some college credits from taking nursing such as
Human Anatomy&Physiology I:SC1
Human Anatomy&PhysiologyII:SC1
Microbiology: SC1

and a few others.......

The local community college has both

Now in the real world what's the difference? If I go for Health-IT I would have less classes to take, would I be able to do the same stuff as an IT in a health care setting or is it just more for EHR?

I would like to get my Bachelor of Science in Information Technology..... but what to start with.....

More about : school classes

It really depends on what role you have to play, I work in IT at a hospital and we have two sides to information services. We have IT: network engineers, hands on technical staff working with servers, and switches and computers. Then we have what I guess can be broken down to "Clinical Informatics". Which is basically the team dedicated to support our EHR/EMR system.

With the Health Information Technology degree, you would be more suited for the clinical side, basically their role is to support the clinical staff in their use of the emr, ensuring the system is work, jobs are functional etc.

With the latter degree, you would be more suited in a role of the hands on technician that supports the computers that run that EMR, or the servers that power it, or the switches that handle the traffic etc.

So long story short it depends on what interests you more.

What are your goals? What do you like to do.. do you want to work with computers/servers/switches/routers, or do you want to work more with applications.

I can't really offer you too much help on the topic, as I am still going through a similar situation, but I want to wish you the best of luck!

Right now I am a student in IT (who is about to graduate with an Associates Degree from one school, and then continue in another) while I also work in the field. It is an incredible feeling to know not only that the educational path I am taking is the right one (and I am passionate about it), but also that I am racking up the experience, both on paper and mentally, while I do.

I hope to be very successful in the field, and I hope that you are able to make the right choices as well and become just as successful, if not more.
