Need advice about replacing my Radeon HD 6850

I had this one for almost 2 years now. I think its seeing the end of its days since its making a dying-mini lawn mower sound. Took it out yesterday, blasted the dust out of it.. It worked fine afterwards, until I turned my PC on again the next morning. The fan is still clean but its spinning like a granny, which is whats making its annoying noise.

So this is the current setup:

CPU: AMD FX-4100 -- Quad Core 3.61 GHz
Mainboard: Sabertooth 990FX
Graphics: Radeon HD 6850
RAM: 8 GB

I had a buddy of mine help me build this rig (mostly on his own), and for some real stupid and unfortunate reason..(Of him moving 5 hours away and us not keeping in contact for awhile, and him probably changing his number.) :( I can't get a hold of him for his opinion.

My question is, what is the best graphics card upgrade over the 6850? And still have it work with my current setup without making any drastic changes?
:??:

And tips and insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Samsung Slim 27" Full HD 1080p 60Hz LED, running on 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Budget, at this point I can go with the best option if it will really help and improve my PC's performance.

The heaviest game I run with my PC is Skyrim. I play on a somewhat tweaked Ultra settings with horrible fps (20-30) -_-; That's with all the script heavy mods I run with it, and additional visual and 2k texture mods.

I'm not an expert when it comes to parts, or building computers. So do you guys suggest on switching to a (much better?) i5 if I'm going to change my graphics card in the first place?

Get GTX 760 . Later on ,upgrade the cpu -FX 8350

But he has a good mobo , so the path of Intel would be more expensive , so for him , it s better to upgrade the cpu to FX 8350. it is good for gaming .

If I switch to an i5 or (maybe even an i7). I would have to get a new mobo. (If this happens to be the case, can you guys recommend a good one that will last me for quite awhile?)

Switching to Intel would indeed be more expensive. If I stick with my current mobo and get the FX 8350, getting a GTX 780 wouldn't be much of a pain. The only reason why I'm still not completely taking Intel out of the equation is because of the reviews I read about it, and how good it works for my main game (Skyrim). Assuming I can run all my heavy mods + ultra settings and still have a smooth stable fps (around 60) then I'd be happy with that.. if the FX 8350 + 780 combo could pull that off. I'm thinking if I switch to Intel, I might just overpay for something I don't necessarily need.

this happens because i5 4670 has 43% better result than FX 8350 in single core test . So ,
cpu i5 4670
mobo Asus H87 Plus or ASRock Z87 Pro4 .or
(Asus Z87-A , ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer)
gpu GTX 770 /GTX 780

meybe this is the optimal
cpu i5 4670

mobo ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer

Please do this and don't get the 780 its wasteful! Spend the extra money on a nice sound card and some expensive headphones 8) if you're into audio at all it will make you a happy person.

without changing motherboards, you could get a 6300 or 8320 to replace the 4100 (just flash the BIOS first)

the 6300 and either 760 or 270X will be perfect 60 fps or better all your monitor is capable of.

yes an i5 4670 would push a few more FPS than the 6300 or 8320 or 8350....but we're talking about 5-10 fps at most, and i any case anything over 60 is a moot point

Interesting, if I go this route I would have more room to buy other things. Right now I'm noticing my pc's airflow is really bad. I can't remember if the case came with its cooling system when my friend bought it.. But right its not doing anything noticeable to reduce the heat.

This is the case I have http://www.corsair.com/en/pc-cases/graphite-series-pc-case/special-edition-white-graphite-series-600t-mid-tower-case.html

Which cooling system would work best for my case?
