So recently I just finished building my PC. All I need now is to order my OS. I thought I'd have to wait a couple more weeks to play it since I don't have an actual monitor, but then I realized that I could just use my 24-inch HDTV. I have an HDMI cable. I noticed the HDMI port is where the gfx card is. However, the front panel headers on the mobo seem to have no HDMI port, just VGA. So do I need BOTH an HDMI and VGA? I just feel like that having an only having the HDMI in the gfx card won't work.

Both the GPU and board should be able to boot into the Bios of the system, right away, and that will allow you to set the preferred output type. So the HDMI should work. Now be warned that not all HDMI inputs on a TV can handle the signal from a PC so if there are more than one and at first it does not work, try the other/s.
