Hello everyone,

So I have had the following setup now:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k 3.4 GHz Ivy Bridge
Motherboard: Asus p8z77-v pro
Graphics Card: ASUS HD7870-DC2-2GD5
RAM: 2 sticks of 8 GB DDR3
256 GB Toshiba Pro SSD and 2.0 TB WD Caviar Green HDD
CoolerMaster HAF 912 case
PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA-650
LG Blu-ray writer
Windows 7 Installed

The computer will not output sound through the analog rear lime green line out or the front audio output. I was previously using it just fine but then had to move the computer for a few months and was using it on a TV with HDMI out through the graphics card and getting my audio that way.

Then when I go back to my original setup, I get no sound. I tried my speakers and a couple pairs of headphones to no avail. When I look at playback devices in the sound panel, the Realtek High Definition Audio says "not plugged in" no matter what I do. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and played around with settings I saw around the message boards. I looked around the BIOS but didn't see any settings that pertained to this. I am on the most current version of BIOS. I booted into a live ubuntu setup and no sound there either, but I don't really know what I'm doing in Linux. Is there anything else I could try? Or could it be a problem with the board?

I changed out the SSD (cloned old to new), RAM, and added the optical drive in the time I wasn't using the analog output. I ground myself and everything but it's possible something could have shorted the sound board or damaged one of the components inside?

I hope I am clear enough. Please let me know if you have any ideas and I'll give them a shot. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks!

I ran across this on the internet. Just reverse what is said and see if it helps.
Although it would be great if computers just worked, they often don't. The audio drivers for the video card outputting audio over HDMI can sometimes conflict with your existing audio drivers.

To solve this problem you need to disable your old audio drivers and enable the new ones. Go to your Windows Control Panel and then open sound properties. You will find a list of audio outputs available. Select the HDMI output and right-click to open a menu. Click disable. Then right-click the HDMI output and make sure it is enabled. You may also need to reboot your computer.

Sorry it took me awhile to get back. So I tried doing what you said but it didn't help. Another odd thing that I have observed is that the Realtek HD Audio Manager thinks that I am plugging and unplugging devices randomly. It isn't very frequent but I didn't do anything to the computer when this happened. Any other ideas?

Well when I reinstalled drivers I went to the ASUS support page to get the latest drivers. Should I go to Realtek to see if they have newer drivers? It looks like they have generic drivers that are newer than what ASUS offers. Would those drivers be compatible?
