Xp to Ubuntu Help

I recently recieved a very old small desktop and i want to use it for media (put it under my tv). There is alot of junk on it and i want none of it. Is there a way for me to install ubuntu on it but keep nothing from the HDD?

um? reformat the drive and install it just like you would any OS

Even easier, let Ubuntu do it for you. "Install on entire hard drive?"=yes.

If you didn't know that, I'd recommend not using linux. Also make sure your computer can run ubuntu, I couldn't on either of my old pcs, i opted to use instead Pepper mint. How are you connecting to the Internet? Sometimes it requires alot of work to get older wifi thingys to connect.
