Wifi Loss on iPad and MacBook Pro

I have a 15-inch, late 2011 MacBook Pro with OS X 10.9.1 and iPad 2 with iOS 7.0.4 and neither will connect wirelessly. I have tried the network reset on both to no avail. The 2nd generation iPod and my Android and Windows based computers connect wirelessly without any problems.
Is there a fix for this? I have searched Apple support forums and evidently this is not a new problem (thread is 6 years old with people still complaining about the problem).

Update: Wifi is now working on both devices.
iPad: Turned on Airplane mode and shut down. Restarted and turned off Airplane mode. Shut down again. After restarting I entered the network password and it connected immediately.

MacBook Pro: Took the laptop into the same room with the Netgear router. Pushed the WPS button on the router and the connection was restored. Walked a few feet and the connection appeared to be lost again. Walked back toward the router and the connection was restored. Stayed while some software updated (not related to wifi). Made it to the living room and the connection stayed strong. Shut down and about an hour later rebooted and still have a signal.

Reopened because I would like to know of any other possible solutions should I or anyone else have this problem again.

I think this is a router issue.

I had this problem with a Dell XPS 15 with the Intel WiFi module and a Broadcom based WiFi module with netgear routers. Also, a MBA presented similar problems with the same router (and it's based on the same Broadcom WiFi module of the XPS).

At the time I solved it by using a fixed channel (had to test till a channel that would make it stable) and setting it to 802.11N (or G, can't remember) only. Oddly, when I did this my laptops started connect normally, but friends' ones started behaving exactly as mine did.

What I failed to mention was that this was a recent problem. Up until about a week ago both Mac devices could connect and maintain a connection. It was only the MacBook Pro and iPad that were losing a connection. No problems with a custom built PC, HP laptop or Toshiba laptop as well as the Android devices and 2nd gen. iPod.

Yes, just like the problems I had!

On that netgear router I used to connect my former Sony smartphone flawlessly. Also, the MBA and the XPS 15 would work using a D-link USB 802.11n dongle.
