I just built a new computer:

Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0
CPU: AMD FX8350
GPU: EVGA 770 GTX 2.0GB
PSU: Rosewill 750W 80 Plus Gold
Tower: Corsair Carbide 500R
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
Memory: GSKill Ripjaws DDR3-2133 4gb x 2 = 8gb

When I turn the power on all the fans begin spinning, the green motherboard LED comes on and the red cpu LED comes on. I have a speaker hooked in to the motherboard but I get no beeps and the monitor doesn't detect a signal. Have tested the monitor on multiple devices. I have tried two different PCI-E slots for the GPU and a second video card that I know works, had no effect. I tried using the bios flashback function as well, still nothing doing. Other things I have noticed is that the computer will turn on when I hit the power button but won't turn off with the same button and the reset button doesn't seem to work. I'm pretty sure I have them connected correctly. There is also a EPU spot for power but I don't have the power cable configuration for it. (googling has informed me that EPU is not necessary...is this true?).

Any advice would be appreciated I have no access to other mobos advanced enough for the GPU or the CPU for testing. It has been a while since I last built a computer.

Thanks,

Greg

If the red LED CPU light is staying on then you won't get far! If the HD, GPU, and RAM lights all come on and go off, but the CPU light stays on, then the CPU is not being detected. Remove it and check all the obvious very carefully. You do have the 8 pin CPU power connector hooked up? Leave the EPU and TPU switches off, you can and should use the AI suite to access all those features ( highly recommended! ) whenever you like. Here is the Tom's list of everything to check. Go over it carefully. Many people scoff at the list, but it is usually an "oops" oversight or a bad PS. Very rarely a bad CPU!

If by "EPU spot for power" you mean the 8-pin power connector - it must be plugged in and would be causing the problems you described if it was not. Your power supply does have the correct connector - "1 x 4+4-Pin ATX12V / EPS12V Connector." It does look similar to the 6+2-Pin PCI-E Connectors so you may have missed it. It is probably labeled somewhere on it.

Thanks guys.

The whole EPU thing threw me for a loop. I looked for the cpu connector when I was building it but the labeling confused the shit out me. The cpu power was right where EPU was printed on the board. Poor labeling imo. The computer seems to be working now.
