So I'm going to be putting a superclocked EVGA GeForce GTX 780 in my build, and I'm using a psu with only one 12v rail (link here). This PSU comes with PCI-e connector cables where one end has a standard 8-pin connector to go into the PSU and the other end has *both* an 8-pin connection and a 6+2-pin connection. Two of these cables come included with the PSU.

The graphics card in question requires one 8-pin connection and one 6-pin connection (both off of the 12v rail, IIRC).

Given the specs of the card vs the graphics performance I deem acceptable (definition at the end), I don't plan on doing any SLI anytime soon. So my question is, can I run the card off of just one of the provided PCIe cables, or do I need to use both?

Acceptable level of graphics performance: The computer I'm using right now gets at best 25 fps in WoW with the graphics on the lowest settings in DirectX 9 mode, at 800x600 resolution. We're aiming to beat that :) At the moment, the games I'm going to be running on this system are WoW, LOTRO, the Mass Effect Trilogy, any Gears of War game I can get my hands on, Evochron: Mercenary, and Halo 1 & 2.

Solution
By standard 8 pin you mean the end that plugs into the modular side of the PSU?
If so, and the other end has an 8 and 6+2 you are more than set! You just use the 8 pin and break the 6+2 into the 6 pin and plug both in.

Yup, that's what I meant by "standard". Thanks for your help!
