Hi guys and gals,
I just purchased a new Acer V5-552P-X617 with the A10-5757M and HD8650G graphics. I seem to have a problem, when I'm surfing the web and particularly a video on the web, sometimes at random my laptop's fan seems to kick on loud, and the system seems to slow down a bit. Hoping someone might have some suggestions on how to fix or what to look for. I do not want to take back since it was the last one and I have installed a SSD (problems were there prior to installing the SSD). Wondering if removing the amd software was a bad idea, or if its hardware? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
The AMD software you refer to removing probably should be reinstalled. If it is the Catalyst Control Center as someone mentioned above or any of the chipset drivers (some come with little software packages tacked on) it can cause system instability or power settings/plans to function improperly.

Have you noticed the fan kicking up based on a location perhaps (maybe streaming videos on a couch where air is having a hard time getting into the vents?? :p )

Also, definitely check your manufacturer's page for any BIOS, Firmware, Driver, or other updates. It could be the machine shipped with a less-than-ideal BIOS and needs some updating to get thermal management working properly :)
laptops have variable speed fans to improve battery life. When the CPU heats up the fan kicks on if the CPU continues to heat up the fan will go to a faster speed. It will then will slow back down when it is cool enough. I have many laptops and they all do this it is normal. If it stays permanently on fast speed then you need to worry.

I would recommend ensuring you have the latest software from AMD for your laptop. The Catalyst Control Center suite bundles together all your drivers and will help to maintain proper system performance. As for your fan speeding up and the system slowing down, I would be interested to see what Windows Task Manager shows as the CPU usage during these occurrences. If the CPU is being utilized heavily enough for you to notice a performance shift I would start looking under the processes tab and sorting it by CPU usage. Let us know what you find, screen shots of the task manager under the monitoring tab and the processes tab during this occurrence will allow me to better direct you to a solution. Don't lose faith in that laptop yet!

Sorry, I missed the slow down part. Are you sure it is slowing down? Try running CPUZ in the background and watch a video while observing CPUZ watch and see if the computer is reducing the multiplier number and clock speed when the fan turns to high. Also run hardware monitor in the background and watch at what temperatures the fans are going to high speed. If the fans kick on and the multiplier and or CPU speed does not change then the system is not slowing down.

Download the openhardware monitor as well. It helps to monitor CPU temperature, clock speed, and fan speed at the same time. Also, start up the tasks manager or get some other system performance monitoring tool. Switch to processes tab and sort them by the CPU usage. Do you see your web browser or any other application taking up too much CPU time?

By the way, I'd recommend to install a firefox extension called flash block. It shuts down all the flash videos unless you click on a button. This is helpful as simply visiting a news site can result in ads playing video with sound and all. This is not only annoying, but can also use up a lot of CPU time.

Another thing that can happen (don't laugh) some laptops ship with garbage BIOS and factory setting which make the laptop run in resource conserving mode when plugged in, and in high performance mode on battery. True story. This happened to some Lenovo portables, also with A10 APU. You may want to check for that by resetting the max clock speed fields in OpenHardware Monitor and then looking at it under load.

If you don't know the answer why even bother to post your answer? Not everybody is a dummy who seeks answers like "check your processes" to see blah blah.

I have the same problem with fan running all the time, even when laptop goes to sleep. No there are no processes that is using abnormally
CPU usage is 5%, the fan runs all the time and I can hear the hissing noise and feel the vibration on my palms.

Please don't post stupid answers unless you are familiar with this issue. Thanks

So I figured I would installed a fresh of 8.1, so I did. I also flashed the BIOS and installed beta version of catalyst since the other version didnt want to work with my computer. After doing this I see a noticeable difference with performance, however the one fan that is quiet likes to run and another fan likes to kick on randomly, I assume it when the computer is running tasks. Between personal computers and work laptops, I go through quite a few laptops, and never encountered such an issue with the fans, although its not too terribly loud, its constant and annoying for someone that is OCD with sounds. When I had this issue with my the last desktop I built, I purchased new more expensive parts to eliminate the issue, but from my understanding its extremely difficult to do that with this laptop?
