Installing win 7 on ex-RAID HDD in non-RAID PC

I have inherited a HDD which was previoulsy used in a RAID config (striped, i think). I have no need for the data on it, and a non-RAID (I think) motherboard PC. I have tried installing win7 on the drive, but the drive doesn't appear during the win7 install process. The BIOS is seeing the drive fine, but it just doesn't appear during install. I can only assume this is because it was previously a RAID drive.

Is there some way I can get win7 to format the drive so i can put a fresh install on it? Is there a BIOS trick to employ (even tho the BIOS seems to see the drive no problems)? Is the problem not linked to RAID at all and is another problem?

Grateful for any advice you can offer!

Unfortunately PC is dead, hence the need to reinstall windows. Anyway to create a partition booting from a cd/usb? Can create boot cd on laptop if required, but no way of connecting sata drive

After you select a "Custom (advanced)" installation, you should get a "Where do you want to install windows?" screen. Is the drive listed on that screen at all?

If you Shift+F10 out of the installation program to a command line, and run the command line DISKPART utility (the command is "list disk"), is the drive listed there?
