Hello.

This monday, i cleaned my whole motherboard and after that everything seemed normal.
Until i started to game.
The temperatures on my CPU was shocking for me, because this is the 1st time that it fails like this, and i haven't been overclocking this cpu at all, so what could be the problem?

These are the temperatures that i'm getting:

In-game
62-80+°C

Not in-game
27-60°C

My CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @2.66 GHz

Please help. :(

(sorry for double post, 404 error when trying to update that post)

Also, don't do anything to push it beyond 70c. Fix this issue. It would appear 71 is the threshold for that CPU. You don't want to damage it.

Shucks! This CPU has a TCASE temperature of 72°C. That is the maximum heat spreader temperature! The numbers reported in the system are actual core temperatures though, which are way higher. I suppose that Core 2 can go all the way up to 100°C with its cores, just like modern Ivys and Haswells can. (They also have a TCASE of 72°C.)

Chances are his temperatures are perfectly normal for his system. Unfortunately he never wrote what they looked like before he cleaned his system. Of course, the system should not remain at 60°C for a longer time when idle, so the question is how his "27-60°C" are to be interpreted.

It would appear you are correct. I just based that initial response on another forum post about the CPU temperature. I see now on the Intel specifications list that it is as you said. Still, ever breaking 80c sounds insane for that CPU at 2.66 GHz. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable with it.

Well, older CPUs have larger structures and higher voltages and therefore run hotter at lower clock speeds than current models. Many people here panic when someone reports than his Haswell goes above 70°C, yet I have torture-tested mine, keeping all four cores at 100°C continuously for several hours, and everything works perfectly. Intel chips are designed for these temperatures; there is no need to worry. (even though I cba to research in detail whether those old Core 2's can also go all the way up to 100°C. I am, however, pretty certain that they were already capable of throttling themselves in case of overheating.)

I guess I do tend to panic at the temperatures, but I have mild OCD when it comes to temperatures and noise. I delidded my 4770k to run it at lower temperatures overclocked. 4.6 / 1.22 @ 55-60C load with an H60 :p

I'm just seeing reports of much lower operating temps for this CPU. While it may not harm it, it won't harm it to double check everything either.
