I have 5 HDDs and will be getting a second 7870 XT, so I need to upgrade my 550W PSU.

I need at least 750W I believe.

It seems modular 750W PSUs start at around £70.

I only want to pay between £70 and £90.

These are my options:

  • ■£71 - 750W Corsair Builder Series CX750M 80PLUS Bronze Modular
■£83 - 850W XFX Pro XXX Edition 80PLUS Bronze Modular
    ■£84 - 750W Corsair CS750M CS Modular 80 Plue GOLD-RATE 12V
■£87 - 750W be quiet! Power Zone Modular
Which would you go for and why?

750W should be plenty, but the XFX is the one to go for. Given how closely priced the 750 and 850W versions are, you might as well go for the 850W.

The XFX in this instance has more wattage, a better OEM and better warranty life.

Unless you have a ridiculous number of them, storage drives are unlikely to make much of a difference to your power reqs. If your CPU is overclocked, especially if it's an AMD one, can eat up a lot of power, and the HD7870XT uses more power than a HD7950 and quite a lot more than a standard HD7870. Even allowing for those things, 750W should cover you.

As the XFX seems a pretty clear winner, and the 850W is priced so closely to the 750W, it seems like it's a moot point anyway.
