Extremely slow download speeds

Hello everyone, I recently purchased an ASUS laptop (specs - http://www.amazon.com/Asus-S500CA-SI30401U-15-6-Inch-Touchscreen-Ultrabook/dp/B00FEJ07V4#productDetails) and have started noticing extremely slow download speeds.

This is unusual because when I first purchased this laptop everything was amazingly smooth in terms of download speed and general Internet surfing. My Internet service provider is Comcast and I have the 30mbps download and 5mbps upload speed as my plan. I also want to mention that I am using their XFINITY cable mode/router if that helps.

I'm dumbfounded as to why this is happening. I only use this laptop for reading emails, watching YouTube videos, and school work.

Please, if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

What kind of results are you getting on speedtest.net? Is it different for different times of day? Are you using a wired or wireless connection to you access point?

Check if connecting the laptop wired to the modem/router you have the same speed issues, if not >
Try changing channels in the router and set the radio band to 20MHz, also, if able deactivate the QoS

Wow, thanks for the speedy response. When I go to Speedtest.net and choose the closest server to my location, my download speed is 2mbps and upload is 3mbps. I've tested this multiple times and it doesn't change.

I'm not really tech savvy so I don't know how to tinker with my Internet settings so if you can guide me on that to try and fix this that would be great.

EDIT: I just plugged my laptop directly to my cable modem and Speedtest.net is giving me better speeds, so I'm guessing something is wrong with the wireless adapter. Any insight?

Is this test wired to the router or wireless?
Call your ISP and tell them you are having this problem, so they change the wireless settings of the router

I just tested the Internet with my laptop wired to the cable modem and it is much faster, but that doesn't really help solve my issue.

Have you tested any other devices on the network, like another computer? If they are all slow, I'd report it to my ISP and let them check it out.

If it's just your laptop there may be a problem with the wireless network adapter, might wanna update the drivers
