ATi Radeon 4670 HD Graphics Card

Solution

They should work. All PCI-E versions are backwards compatible with each other, but I have seen results vary. However there will most likely be no difference for you. Just make sure you have enough room in your case!

That GPU will not work with his motherboard. His motherboard has a PCI-E x16 1.0 lane which supports PCI-E x16 2.0, but not 3.0 So a good HD 6xxx series or 5xx series would suffice.

Somehow i had it in my mind that pcie 3.0 was backward compatible with 1.0, you're right.

Wait, nevermind. A lot of other sources say it will work. However, proceed with caution because it may cause stability issues. If you feel this thread has reached its end choose a best answer and we'll be done!

Yes. Nothing. However a bottleneck might happen if you put a really expensive GPU in there. Just make sure your power supply can supply enough power to the GPU.

in your example bottlenecking is a card's capabilities being hampered by the speed of say the processor.
-the processor is too slow to instruct the fast graphics card at full capability for example.

Instead of that CPU, I would recommend a Phenom II x4 965 (model number HDZ965FBK4DGM) and a 7790 or 7850 depending on how much you want to spend.

Oh, I thought you were going to buy it. If you already have that graphics card, I would recommend the same thing; 7790 or 7850.
