GPU temps are really messed up

So I was doing some cable management in my case which required me to take out my graphics card. Nothing was wrong when I booted up (35c) but once I started playing a game temps soared to 103c. Before temps never got over 70. The airflow of the case was not changed. When I tab out of a game the temps instantly drop back to 35. What is going on and how can I fix this? I have a PowerColor HD 7790.

It sounds like the heat sink got dislodged somehow while you were cleaning.

You can try wiggling it to see if that reseats it or you might have to take the heat sink off and put it back on with new thermal paste.

rubbing alcohol with a q-tip is probably the best and most people have it around.

Well as long as you didn't go in there ham fisted to do cable management it shouldn't have moved.

Yeah I tried to be as careful as I could. Also when I took the card out I noticed a fan blade was missing!! Could the vibrations caused by the missing blade have moved the heatsink?

Anything is possible. If the blade is missing you will have to get a replacement fan.
