Hi all, so i'm looking at purcashing a new 27" monitor and the main usage will be general web browsing and watching movies (0 gaming) and while I require a nice 1080p screen i'd also like for it to have it's own speakers (would prefer to deal without exteranal speakers) that can do a competent job when i'm not using headphones for my audio needs. Having done some research I really like the HP evny 27" which has the gimmicky 'beats audio' speakers but is quite pricey at around £350 the only other alternative i've found is the Asus MX279H (£250) with Bang Olufsen speakers which is also another attractive monitor.

Are there any other similar monitors about in their price range which combine both audio and visial quality that you know of? Or are there any other setups you can recommend for my movie needs? all replies/help is welcome. Thanks!

To be honest, any monitor with the ability to put out audio is going to have terrible audio quality. It's like looking for good speakers on a laptop, it just doesn't happen. They also generally have a premium in price.

I know you've said it's not ideal, but a 2.1 speaker system will be roughly 348219% better than those rubbish old monitor speakers, especially for watching movies. I wouldn't wish monitor speakers on my worst enemy.

I believe that 348219% is entirely accurate.
Most monitor speakers are very small very cheap, leading to tinny sound and there is no bass. They should really only be used for the standard windows noises (like dings etc). I would personally purchase a monitor without speakers, and buy a 2.1 system, or a 5.1 system depending on what you want to pay. I don't have any recommendations though when it comes to speakers.

Fair points and I did know it'd be a long shot but had to see if there were any i'd missed, so what would you recommend as a monitor solution for movies? The Asus MX279H is still in contention but i'd still like some alternatives to it, also 2.1 system suggestions are also welcome something a bit slimline and non ugly.

Well dude, if your heart is set on the MX279H, you could always go for an Asus VX279Q, the exact same screen, without the gimmicky B&O speakers! Cheaper as well!

If you're still after the whole no bezel look, have you looked at the AOC I2757FH? (There's the I2757FM but the only difference is input ports)

If you're after a VA panel as well (better contrast, worse input lag, slight ghosting), the BenQ GW2760HS is supposedly fantastic as well.

Thanks for the suggestions but I keep getting the AOC monitors are really flimsey and weak which has kind of put me off them and i've never been a fan of the BenQ's (more to do with aesthetics to be fair a little clunky looking) as for the VX279Q I wasn't aware it was essentially the same thing as the MX29H minus the speakers so had a look but in terms of price I can pretty much get both for the same price so I don't see much point in getting the VX279Q.
