Sell my GTX 670s for a single GTX 780???

I know this has been asked before but things have changed over the last few months. Newegg had the Gigabyte GTX 780 ghz edition on sale for $499 after rebate over the weekend. The prices of used GTX 670s have gone up on Ebay. I should be able to net @225-250 per card after Ebay and Paypal fees. So it won't cost me much to "upgrade" to the GTX 780 if it goes on sale for @500 again.

My current cards are running at 1189 max boost and 7000 memory. I understand moving to a single gtx 780, even the ghz edition, is more of a sideways move if not a slight step backwards. I am only considering doing it so I am more future proof. I don't plan on upgrading from 1920x1200 anytime soon but that may change. I know in the near future that 2gb of vram is not going to be enough if I decide to upgrade to a higher resolution monitor.

Plus I would have the option to add a second 780 down the road if I needed to. By then prices will have dropped dramatically I imagine. I thought about waiting until the AMD card prices come down but then Nvidia will drop their prices to stay competitive and the resale value of my 670s will drop as well. So now seems like the best time to do it if I am going to.

What do you guys think???

I say yes. Because many games dont like or use SLI. When that happens you're better off with a 780. And a single card draws less power, produces less heat. Even if you play a game that benefits much from twin 670s, a single overclocked 780 might not perform as well but is still enough to max games at your resolution.

If you do put up your cards on Ebay, state their ability to reach high overclock and any warranty left if any. That should help them sell faster.

Personally I always go for the single faster card if you can afford it in this case you can sell your old ones and almost pay for the new one. Later on if you want when the 780 becomes cheaper yet you can do sli again.

For $500 in card you will pay about $50 total to ebay and loose some to paypal. I am not a huge fan of ebay anymore. I run a large business so I don't pay as much in fees as you are going to.

Personally, I'd go for a single card if this was for a new build but in this case it's just a lot of messing around for no useful gain, so I'd stick with the SLI configuration until you do a full, new build later on.
A 2Gb framebuffer is going to be viable for a few years to come and by the time it isn't you'll need to up the CPU to drive the better card/s anyway.
Otherwise, only consider the GTX780 when you move to a higher res monitor, where it'll have the chance to show its full potential.

I will probably upgrade my cpu and mobo in the next generation if it is worth it. The last two generation of i5's/i7's haven't increased performance by that much clock for clock. I understand the new generations will overclock higher but clock for clock there isn't a big difference in performance compared to the x58 platform. I was keeping an eye out for a deal on a 980x/990x but they are still selling for too much money to justify buying one.

I am leaning towards doing it. I can always post one card at a time on Ebay and see what happens. If it sells for @260-280 then I will post the second one for sale and wait for a deal on the Gigabyte GTX 780 ghz edition. I have been very happy with my Gigabyte 670s. All the reviews I have read on the Gigabyte 780 ghz edition have been excellent.

They are the same brand cards but not matching. One of them I have to overclock using Precision for it to boost to 1189. The other one hits 1189 at stock settings. I can push that card to @1250 stable but I run it at stock so they are both running at the same speed.

They both can run faster than +500 memory but I didn't want to push it too far.

I would list them as a fixed price for the pair list all of the specs and what they can do I think you will get more money this way. If not you can list them seperate and see what they will bring.

Personally if I was in the market to buy a gtx 670 or sli setup I would buy yours because they are the same brand we know they can overclock and it would be a sexy setup.

The more research I due the more I am second guessing my decision to do it. My 670 sli setup running at 1189 core and 7000 memory should be a bit faster than a stock 690. Almost all of the reviews I am reading show the 780 ghz edition being about 15-20% slower than the 690. That means I would be taking a significant hit in performance.

Has anyone here gone from a 670 sli setup to a 780?

With your overclocks your 2 cards are going to be faster then a single 780. You might be able to overclock certain 780's to that speed but its not a 100% going to work.

Personally I would stay with what you have untill the 800 series release.

Just my 2 cents

As luck would have it my power supply died today. It is gonna take a couple weeks to get replaced under warranty. So I figured I would post one of the 670s on eBay for 289 and see what happens. If it sells great. If not no harm done. I can't use my computer for a couple weeks anyways.

I sold one of my cards a few days ago. I got $280 for it. Not bad at all. Of course shipping, ebay and PayPal fees bring that down to @225. Not bad I guess. I am going on vacation this Sunday so I won't post my other card until I get back. Now the decision comes down to 780 or 780ti???

I am leaning towards. Gigabyte 780 ghz edition. Good looking card, high stock clocks and I was very happy with the gigabyte 670s.

So do I just get the gigabyte ghz 780 for @510 or get the 780 ti oc edition for @680? The ghz 780 ti is @720 but I have read a lot of reviews of it crashing at stock clocks. The ghz 780 ti is clocked extremely high at stock clocks. Fastest stock 780 ti available I believe.

So 780 ghz edition for $510 or 780 ti oc edition for $680???

You should do it, you have the option to upgrade and SLI down the line, so you should definitely sell your cards for the good price now.
Plus, I like having a stronger single card in all situations, it just preforms better and you have no problems with SLI.
