I think you mean that your PSU (not motherboard) has two 8 pin pcie connectors.
It would be unusual if those connectors were not of the 6 + 2 type.
If they are 6+2, they are designed to fit either 6 or 8 pin ports on the graphics cards.

What psu do you have?

The 6-pin PCIe power connectors should be coming from your power supply, not your motherboard. If this is what you meant ("My power supply has two 8-port PCIe power connectors..."), then check to see if they are actually 8-pin power connectors or 6+2-pin power connectors in which you just need to disconnect the "+2" from the 6.

No, the connectors are on the motherboard.

The computer is an HP ProLiant ML350p G8. It has a modular power supply, and all the connections are routed to the motherboard.

From the information I'm able to find out, that system will only support the NVidia Quadro K4000 professional graphics card (or via an HP graphics upgrade kit). These cards require additional power connections directly from the power supply, not the motherboard. The 8-pin motherboard power ports, I'm guessing, are for additional power to SATA/RAID controller cards. Additionally, I suspect that it not the original power supply for that server.

Where did you pick up this system from and what is it's intended use?

There are two 8-pin PCIe connectors on the motherboard labeled J7 and J8 and designated as "Graphic card power connector"

(There are also three additional PCIe power connectors for the two hard drive backplanes and DVD drive blackplanes).

I understand that these graphics cards require additional power, but this computer has a modular power supply. There are no cables running from it. It is a brick with a row of pins that plugs into the computer. ALL OF THE POWER CONNECTORS ARE ON THE MOTHERBOARD.

It is the original power supply for the computer. It is specifically designed for the ProLiant series of computers and is interchangeable with other models.

I'm in the same situation. I have the same computer and same need for 2 6-pin power connectors for a graphics card. What was the solution you found?

Thanks
