Storing my CPU...

So I need to RMA my Motherboard, and that means taking out the CPU fan and cooler. (stock) My first breadboard worked, (but not second, something is defective) so now the thermal paste is spread out between the cpu and cooler. Should I take it off and how should I store it? I still have the box the CPU came with.

Clean off the old thermal paste (isopropyl alchol 75-90% and lint-free material) and put it back in it's plastic container within the box. If it has pins on the base be careful not to touch them, or if you must then do so as little as possible, and within a static-free environment (no carpet, use an anti-static wristband and ground yourself if you want to).

Isopropyl alcohol to remove the paste and store it in it's original packaging. Get some more thermal paste too.
