I want to use a Linksys E2500 in the basement as a wired router and to feed a nighthawk R7000 upstairs for additional router and wifi, what would the settings be?

Best solution

a b X LAN

Just turn off DHCP in the R7000 and make it an AP. It will also need a static address on the network but outside the E2500 DHCP range, an LAN port to LAN port Ethernet connection to the E2500, set the radio channels to different channels than the E2500, and use either the same or different SSID and security key.
