Every time i put a storage device into my computer, it continuously tells me that it failed to install the drivers. What could be causing this, and how can i fix it? My external drive is a WD passport. I keep getting an error message saying "Device driver software was not successfully installed"

There is an issue with your USB Drivers. Try to restore to factory ones (if you updated) or to update (if using factory ones)
go to device manager, open USB section
Spoiler

right mouse click and click on
Spoiler

to update drivers

if its not that, it may be that your WD Passport is corrupt (happens if you drop it, unplug it while you are writing something to it, if you never ever defragment it, etc...)

I'll try this, but i know its not the passport or usb because they worked perfectly fine on my other computer.

if it still works on another computer, then you need to do the drivers....

Hmm, theres a lot more drivers in my universal serial bus controllers folder than yours. There's multiples of each driver, may this be the problem?

this is my work pc with ONE HDD and 2 USB ports

in general you need ONE Host controller (and a USB 3.0 Host Controller if you have a USB 3.0) and one hub per group of usb ports
