So I'm looking for a new external HDD. Right now I have a WD Essentials 1.5TB and it's filling up incredibly fast. I've narrowed down my choices to 4:

Seagate Expansion 2TB (79.99$)
Seagate Expansion 3TB (109.99$)
Seagate Backup Plus 2TB (99.99$)
Western Digital My Book Essential 2TB (109.99$)

My first thought was to go with the Expansion 3TB, but I always heard stories about how HDD 3TB or bigger have terrible reliability and that 2TB is the sweet spot. I've owned both so no brand loyalty. It seems the only difference (besides price) between the Expansion and Backup Plus is the included software, which doesn't mean anything to me.

Anybody have an experience with either of these 4 or which to go with?

I would go with one of the 2tb drives just for the simpler solution should you ever need to recover files from it. the 3tb's often employ 'tricks' to present 1 drive letter to the OS when in reality the drive has more than one partition.
