First time computer build boots up but hear this.

So I've just fully assembled my rig and I hooked it up to my plasma TV. And it's starts up perfectly all the fans are spinning, including the one on the GPU. But it's doesn't actually boot up, it just displays some weird screen which is half black and the other half is that distortion color. What does this mean, I'm kinda nervous about all this because it is my first build ever. So here's me hoping that you can help me out. :)

Yeah you know the weird thing is everything is working fine, the're no error's in my ddr, cpu or even my gpu (or else the error indicating led's would be blinking on my mobo). And it does sends out some sort of signal to my television, cause my TV displays something albeit half a screen of distortion and the other half pitch black. If I were to get a DVI to hdmi cable, could this potentially solve my problem. Also I have a R9 290 in my system, so another potential problem could be the the fact that this card is rather new so therefor the drivers are not able to output hdmi in bios mode.
