Just converted from POTS to Uverse. The old system has an answering machine downstream from the fax machine - fax picked up and if no fax signal switched to answering machine. Now I have Uverse with voicemail and can't find any way to get the fax to receive on its own. If I pick up a phone before it goes to voicemail and let the tones run everything works - but that's not what's intended. So how do I send a fax to a shared line with Uverse? Or do I turn off the voicemail and go back to the answering machine?
UPDATE: I gave up - there's apparently no way to do this. I went back to the answering machine connected to the fax machine connected to Uverse - that works fine. Back to the future...
