DDR4, Broadwell, and overall "next gen"

So, I am someone who constantly puts together builds they would enjoy building when they're bored on pcpartpicker, but can't actually buy them. I have been saving up for a gaming computer for a bit, now, and I was wondering on whether I should build one now, or keep saving for another year or so and build a desktop once DDR4 Memory, Broadwell, and maybe the next generation of GPUs are out? Really, I have no reason to buy a desktop NOW, so yeah. Also, are the GPUs usually released from around summer to november? I just started getting into hardware when the GTX 780 Ti came out, so I haven't experienced watching new generations come, I only know from my research. Thanks!

Well I hopped on the latest gen bandwagon when i bought my Haswell build. Note that the next gen is just a tick in Intel's tic toc release methodology. This means that Ivy to Haswell was supposed to be a restructure of the architecture and Broadwell is supposed to be a minor improvement over Haswell. As far as CPUs go, now is as good a time as any.

As far as GPU is concerned, I am sure the next gen is going to be "the next best thing" but if you keep that mindset you are never going to pull the trigger on a build. Just get a good model from the 700 series such as the 770 or the 780 if you want to splurge and you can always upgrade or expand later. I have the GTX770 and it is pretty powerful for my needs and has overclock potential...

Lastly, I don't think there is any reason to wait for the latest gen of DDR memory. With a decent pair of DDR3 sticks, there is no way it will bottleneck the build.

Well I believe there's not going to be much improvement with broadwell in terms of gaming, the big gains I'm told are going to me in integrated graphics which won't matter if you have a dedicated gpu.

I would still buy ddr3 when ddr4 is out unless money isn't a problem tbh.

Maxwell on the other hand I would wait for. Next gen of gpus will be very impressive I believe.

I'm waiting for it all to be released before my next build, like you I am in no hurry to upgrade. The only reason I'm waiting is I hope broadwell/Haswell-e and ddr4 will drop the prices of current tech.
