My PC hits 98C when under load

So I've finally replaced my fried motherboard. But the thing is, is when I'm just using YouTube and maybe some disk writing, my CPU usage goes up to 99% for 30 seconds then it goes back down. Also, the temps hit 99C on the CPU. What's wrong with it? Did I install something wrong? Should I stop using it to avoid damage? Thanks!

You get rid of paste by simply scraping it off, and since the processor is old it may be time for an upgrade because it can only handle so much by todays standards

This is an older CPU so it is expected to go up to 99% but the part about 99C is what is troubling, maybe the fan isn't properly applied or maybe you need to take the fan off and get rid of the old thermal paste and apply new, is it getting enough airflow and how much dust is inside. But if do all of this and this keeps happening then i would just get a new CPU.

How exactly do you get rid of the old paste? There is no dust, at least I think so, since I sprayed it down with some compressed air before I finished it. I think it should be getting enough airflow, the side is closed but all fans are connected, and it's in an open space. Also, idle, it is 58C.

Okay, I'll make sure to do that this weekend and I'll report back. I don't think I'll be upgrading the CPU, since it's a LGA 775, and I would need a system overhaul, because processors with this socket are a bit dated..

It's now going to 34C maximum and 24C minimum after I installed a new fan. Turns out, the fan wasn't properly making contact with the CPU. Thank you!
