Solution

Apparently the warning exists, but the game works fine.

Freezing and crashing is NOT normal. I get that in a couple games (mainly Bethesda) due to bad programming but otherwise it's rare.

*Run MEMTEST for a full pass, or until errors. Errors can mean bad memory, or bad settings for the memory (DDR3 sticks). www.memtest.org

About 30min for 8GB. If...
You can't go from 8.1 to 8.

I test games on Windows 8 though and found 300 out of 304 worked in Windows 8 AND Windows 8.1. The ONLY ones that failed were a couple from Telltale Games and I found a workaround.

Your issue may not be specifically related to Windows 8.

1) VERIFY each game:
right-click game (in Steam)-> Properties-> Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

2) Update video drivers if needed

3) Research specific game troubleshooting tips if above doesn't work.

4) POST game names and I'll see if they are on my list if verified games.

Company of Heroes 2. it says i cannot run it on compatibility mode and it is not on compatibility mode, so most likely its the OS. so far that's the only one i have found not working. also my other games freeze and crash sometimes but since this is a new PC i do not know if the PC, GPU or OS is the fault there.

About 30min for 8GB. If ERRORS occur, then:
a) update the motherboard BIOS if newer exists
b) click "XMP" in the BIOS (Intel), or AMP? for AMD and verify the CPU and DDR3 Memory frequency are default (i.e. 3.8GHz Turbo and 1600MHz or whatever). then SAVE if changed.
c) retest with MEMTEST any time you make changes to memory or CPU settings

If ERRORS still happen, test ONE STICK of DDR3 memory at a time using only the slot the motherboard manual recommends. (Make sure that TWO sticks are also only in the proper slots if there are four slots).
