Newer hard drive causing long boot up time.

Hello,

I recently had a HDD die on me so I switched out with one that I used on an older computer. I wiped the drive clean and partitioned it for Windows and it read and worked just fine but when I reboot my boot up time is increased to the point where I have to shut it down and remove the HDD to get windows to work. I was just wondering what could be causing it and if there was a solution.

I think that may be out of the question. I tried restarting with it inside the computer and it wouldn't boot period. It would just hang at the Windows logo before you get to desktop. I tried booting a Win 7 cd and erase everything on it that way but the CD won't boot with that drive inside it so I think the Drive is toast, which is unfortunate since I now have to get a brand new one...

Anyway, thank you for your help.

I wouldn't call it a lost cause yet. There are a number of bootable media out there that provide a full format function. Acronis rescue media for e.g. It might take a VERY long time for anything to load if the drive is corrupt but it should eventually get there (say 20 minutes before you give up).

Another option would be to use a different pc to format the drive.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to your post, I didn't come back to this after I chose an answer and I didn't get an e-mail about a new post until now.

Ok, I'll try booting up with it again and see if it goes through. I'll also get that formatting software so I can wipe it.

I could attach the drive to another PC I have laying around but I don't see the point of doing that since it would just hang at the boot up screen wouldn't it?

Thank you for your help and I'll see if I can save this drive.

I tried letting it take its time to boot up but it still just hung there doing nothing, I also tried going into repair and it couldn't do that, nor could it go into safe mode. I think this HDD is dead. I don't know what more I could do to it unless there is a program I can burn to a CD that'll automatically wipe the drive w/o reading it but I don't think there is such a think.
