Curious Hard Drive Question

Hi all,

I recently built my own gaming PC and it is running well. As such my question is just an oddity really.

My past PC's were bought from a "not so local" custom PC builder and were always reliable, My question is this:

The past PC's from the other person all came with 1tb hard drives, which when partitioned equaled 2x 500gb equally (atleast that's what windows read)

My PC build with similar hard drives and even the same one reformatted reads as 1x 500gb + whatevers left.

I'm aware that the harddrives sizes are worked out using different multipliers (windows vs creator) but could anyone explain how this person managed to get such clean looking partitions?

Regards

Solution
its impossible.
he must have used a 1.2 or 1.5tb drive and gave you two 500gb partitions and used the rest for a recovery partition.

Thanks everyone for your input, I knew about the harddrive calculations, just wasn't sure if there was something I was missing in terms of making a 1tb hard drive display in windows as 1tb. Turns out I wasn't missing anything so popatim got best answer.
