What's better a more powerful GPU or monitor and a less powerful gpu?

Hey Tom's Hardware Community, Should I get a 280x or a 270x and a 1080p ips monitor Currently I'm using the Intel hd4000 on a 19" Dell 1440x900 monitor.I'll be mostly gaming but also be doing some video editing/recording and programming Thanks a ton!

More about powerful gpu monitor powerful gpu
  1. 280x would be a waste for 1440x900.
Buy a 770 and the monitor if you can afford as 770 is cheaper than 280x
  2. 770 performs a little better than 280x.
  3. I can't. I can only get a 280x or a 270x and a monitor. I cannot get a 770 and a monitor
  4. ok.
Sorry for asking again does monitor come with 280x?
  5. No its either 270x with monitor or 280x with old monitor
  6. if you go with 270x with the new monitor you will be able to play games on 1080 but it will not be future proof,
But if you go with a 280x which is a powerful card than 270x , you may be loosing out on monitor.
But it will be future proof as it can handle games better than 270x i the future.
You can upgrade your monitor later.
  7. I think I'll be able to updrade my monitor 1 year after getting the 280x. Is 1440x900 @ 19" to 1920x1080 @ 23" A HUGE difference?
  8. Ya it is esp from 1440 x 900 to 1080p.
You are able to play at full hd.
    More clarity,more detailed.
Ya then get the 280x and buy monitor later.
  9. what are you using now?? there no point in buying a 280x with your monitor if anything save your money or do both save your money and get the r9 270

Get a r270 now and then again spend money on a gpu one year later.
    No point.
  11. Any other opinions?
  12. Well, if you buy an R9 270(X) and monitor now, you will need a new GPU sooner rather than later. And you will lose on the GPU when trying to sell it.

I would get the R9 280x now (you have the guarantee of the horsepower), and the new monitor when possible.

well considering hes not a Graphics enthusiast he wont really need to upgrade much as long as his specs are above that of the Playstation 4 or Xbox One- forgive me guys for saying it that way. i feel all dirty inside just for thinking it. anyway the 270x gives almost as good as the gtx760 and is for father the GTX 580. and could last him a long time.
