What's better a more powerful GPU or monitor and a less powerful gpu?

if you go with 270x with the new monitor you will be able to play games on 1080 but it will not be future proof,
But if you go with a 280x which is a powerful card than 270x , you may be loosing out on monitor.
But it will be future proof as it can handle games better than 270x i the future.
You can upgrade your monitor later.

Well, if you buy an R9 270(X) and monitor now, you will need a new GPU sooner rather than later. And you will lose on the GPU when trying to sell it.
I would get the R9 280x now (you have the guarantee of the horsepower), and the new monitor when possible.

well considering hes not a Graphics enthusiast he wont really need to upgrade much as long as his specs are above that of the Playstation 4 or Xbox One- forgive me guys for saying it that way. i feel all dirty inside just for thinking it. anyway the 270x gives almost as good as the gtx760 and is for father the GTX 580. and could last him a long time.
