Interesting Coil Whine Issue

SO, i started to notice a few driver versions ago that my GTX 760 was whining, (it did not whine for an entire month from original purchase) so i RMA'ed it, and got a stand in 650ti boost for the month long wait (which also coil whined) leading me to believe it was something in my system causing this. the 760 arrived, and i gave the 650ti to a friend, it does not whine in his system. neither does his older 550ti (which whines in my system) and the new 760 went in. it to whines. Now this aint no normal whine. We are talking whine/scanner noise (100% coming from the GPU and nothing else)

>Move mouse= slight whine
>Idle on windows= slight whine here and there
>Gaming= constant whine
>Watching netflix= YOU GUESSED IT, whine.

Now this is where it gets even stranger.

I bought a new HDD, and reinstalled windows. Now before i installed the nvidia drivers, NO COIL WHINE AT ALL, but afterwords, the card started right back up howling like a banshee again.

What can i do to stop this noise, its literally driving me mad. When i cant even surf the net a bit, without this HORRID noise (like a mix between a whine, and a scanner) its gone to far.

Im suspecting its the drivers. Can anyone help out?

coil whine is due to vibrations caused by the inductors on the board( they create a magnetic field) to help stabilize the current. This does not necessarily represent an issue anywhere at all. however It could be just bad luck or maybe not the power supply being a bit unstable (is it grounded?), even though I doubt that with corsair.

and nevermind again still whining all the time just not AS loud. Nvidia really needs to fix this, its obviously the drivers, because each one causes a different whine style.

As previously suggested it can be partly because of the psu even if the noise itself is coming from the card. You did mention some of the cards didn't whine in your friends pc. Some combinations just don't seem to like each other very much, so if you could try some other psu in your system...

Also without the drivers installed windows is using the standard vga drivers and doesn't fully utilize the card so the power draw is different.

edit those voltages are all erranous readings, if the 12V really was just 8v the pc would just shut down immediately

well if you can easily borrow another Corsair I'd try that first rather than buying another brand from the shops. :)
It migh be the overall desing of the electronics (in which case all units of the same model should behave the same) or yours is an unlucky one and somehow slightly 'faulty' while still passing the QA...

Drivers dont cause coil whine, but the different loading on the Graphics card can change or increase/decrease the noise.

Seriously, try another PSU.

Only other psu i have access to is the old 500 watt corsair i gave my friend when i got the 750m. i had no cards whine with that psu and neither does he so i guess its worth a shot.
