Hi guys,
I am having an issue where my SSD isn't detected most of the time. After reading some other threads I think it might be that it works from power-off but not from reboot (or not reliably if it does happen to work on reboot). This is with a brand new mobo and CPU.
I just returned an FX-6300 for causing random reboots with my old mobo (which worked fine with a Phenom X6 1045T). I read that the PSU is often the culprit for issues like that, but since my old CPU worked fine I wrote it off as the new one being a dud. Then the other day I replaced both mobo and CPU and now I have an SSD issue instead.
I am not sure if my SSD is dying (would be rather convenient timing since I just bought a new mobo & CPU) or if my PSU actually is at fault and I didn't have a dud FX-6300. Or it could be something else. Here's the combinations of hardware and problems I've had:
No SSD detection on reboots (or sometimes detection but unusably slow/unreliable OS):
Random reboots (event viewer message says something about NorthBridge):
Working fine:
Some other things to note, I've got the latest BIOS version, I've reset to defaults, I've checked connections, unplugged the HDD and left only the SSD, tried different SATA ports...
As for BIOS settings:
I've got Intel Rapid Boot disabled but Intel Smart Connect enabled (this is in my list to try disabling).
Tried playing with CSM (compatibility settings for the drives)
All ports are set to AHCI mode
Hot Plug Enabled (was disabled by default, seemed worse disabled but possibly had no effect).
Not overclocking
While I write this my PC is at home cloning the SSD partition to unallocated space on my HDD while I am at work. At lunch I plan to test booting from from power-off vs rebooting to see if I can make sure that it is in fact always working from power-off vs reboot.
Any help is appreciated. I am prepared to buy either a new PSU or SSD but don't want to pick the wrong component to have to try and return it and buy the other.
