BF4 Limited Resource Usage

Ok So i've been monitoring my hardware usage for battlefield 4 today and i'm noticing something surprising. It appears battlefield 4 is only using a portion of my hardwares power and i was wondering if anyone could explain why.

So my system specs

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400s 2.66Ghz
6GB Ram
Radeon R9 270x 2GB

I'm Running battlefield 4 in Ultra Settings and getting a consistent 48 - 60 FPS

Using MSI Afterburner my card's reading at about 48% usage.

My Cpu is Reading about 60-80% Usage.

My First thought was a bottleneck, but if that was so wouldn't 100% of the cpu be being utilized?

Hoping i can get some clarification on this.

Many Thanks

Nothing uses 100% of your resources. It loads when it needs to load something.

were you windowed reading that? your card should be @ 100%, i wouldnt be surprised if your cpu was close to 100 in bigger games

48% usage in what? Fan speed? Memory? Core clock?

i'd say he meant 48% gpu usage but that cant be possible, so it has to be fan speed %

I just ran the game with a 670, it only runs about 40-68% according to MSI. That's normal

Programs don't run your card 100% all the time. It only loads if it's doing something. Once the map is loaded and the textures are in the ram, it doesn't need to work at 100%.

Yeah I'm talking about 48% usage, which I thought was weird. Playing other games such as arma 2 uses a lot more gpu. Well once the cards loaded in the textures etc like you said, why would it leave all that processing power just idle?

depending on what settings you play it it will load it higher, like turning AA up to max should raise it quite a bit, plus if you play with the resolution settings over 100 it will surely keep your card at 100%

my cards run at 85+ mostly in the 90s while playing bf4

the only other time it wont go to full load if your cpu cant keep up/ is running full load

yes sir vsync is horrible since it causes input lag, on vysnc it will keep my cards basically at 100

I am also playing on 1440p which has much more pixels, even on my 1080 it was still a fairly high load

I leave vync on or I get horrible tearing (mind you I'm on a TV).
Time to crank the graphics to Ultra and see what it does.

Yup that did it.

OP, disable vsync in the settings and see what it does.

Vsync is/was disabled at the time of testing.

Going with CPU bottle neck. Asked a friend with a similar CPU and he gets the same result. The Core2's just can't process fast enough to keep up.
