Are these good parts for a first time computer builder?

My brother and I are trying to build a desktop together. We have never built one before and are going for a computer that is viable for gaming, but not too hardcore. We would like to keep the budget under $1100-$1200. Through our research and advice of some friends who have built their own, we have assembled a parts list.

CPU - Intel Core i7-4770k 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard - Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory - Mushkin Silverline 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage 1 - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Storage 2 - Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card
Case - Rosewill Legacy QT01-B ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply - Silverstone 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive - Pioneer BDC-207DBK Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer

We could use any advice you have for what parts would be better suited for our desktop and why. Thanks for all the help guys.

Solution
It's a nice build. If the main use is gaming you could go with the i5 4670K and step up to a GTX 770. If you will be doing things like video editing that benefit from hyperthreading then stick with the i7.

Knufire,
Looks very similar to the build I'm about to put together! I agree with shortstuff_mt about the CPU. I'm a gamer as well and all the research I've done has told me to go with the i5 over the i7. Games really aren't benefiting much from the i7 features. That could free up about a hundred bucks in your budget so you could look into the GTX 770 upgrade or just pocket the extra cash and call it a day.

I'm also thinking about getting the Rosewill Legacy QT01 case... let me know how you like it. It's a fairly new case by them, not a lot of reviews on it yet.
