Uninstall all the junk you no longer use.
Go into Control panel under Services and check all the services that are marked Automatic. You may be able to disable some of them. Write down which ones you disable, in case you need to turn them back.
Look under the Startup menu - most things in there have installed themselves there without asking for permission and shouldn't be there.
Defragment your hard drive.
