how much should i spend on a motherboard for gaming?

im going to be building a gaming computer for my first time and im unsure about wether to spend a lot of money on a motherboard or save it for something else.

i was looking at motherboards at around£100-150 so is this too much to send on one or is that a good price.

also could you suggest any motherboards for gaming under £150.
