Lately I have been researching different upgrades.
Currently I'm running a SLI setup with 2 x 560 Ti 2GB/OC from MSI (http://eu.msi.com/product/vga/N560GTX-Ti-Twin-Frozr-II-...)

I was wondering if it's worth upgrading to a R9 280x or a GTX770 4gb. Due to recently purchasing a dual monitor setup (1 for gaming and 1 for doing other tasks on the background) will there be a performance increase or decrease upgrading to one of these two graphic cards and then maybe later go for a SLI/Crossfire setup again.

Short version:
Is upgrading to a single card (280x or GTX770) worth doing so at the moment or will this rather be a downgrade?

For reference my current setup:
2700k @4.7ghz
2x GTX 560 ti 2gb/oc
8GB 1866Mhz RAM
250GB SSD Samsung Series 830
250GB SSD Samsung Series EVO
Z77A-GD65

Thank you in advance for the help =)

R9 280x is a beast, you can upgrade, however if you want to stick with SLI instead of XFIRE I would suggest you to get GTX 770

Will upgrading to either of these beasts also come with a performance boost compared to an SLI setup with the two weaker cards or will I see a temporary drop till I buy a second card?

Thank you for answering!

You won't notice much if any drops using only a single monitor for gaming and the second for other tasks.
