I have 1TB of hard drive for my gaming pc. shall i get a seperate smaller HDD for my critical programs and then keep my TB for my gaming recordings and stuff like that? what do you think?

You got it almost right, what you really need for recording your gaming is a sperate drive to record to than the one your game is running from. So yeah, get another drive and record your gaming session to it and them move it off when your done (editing, backing it up, posting it on youtube...)

Maybe I'm biased because I just bought one for similar reasons, but have you considered a SSD for Windows and critical programs? I just picked up a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB for $190 on Amazon, or there are a lot of other, cheaper SSDs out there that would be more worth your while installing than another mechanical HDD. Just a thought.
