So I'm at the stage now where my parts are arriving and I want to know how will I install Windows on to the machine? Windows is on disc and the optical drive is also part of the build, so how do you do it?

Is this a full fresh install Windows and 64 bit http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FRAE7MU/ref=oh_details_o03_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, my motherboard (Gigabyte H87 HD3 has 4 fan connectors. My case has 5 fans (Zalman Z11 Plus). How would I hook all my case fans up? Can I hook them to the PSU?

Also, if anyone can tell me, my mobo is short one USB 3 internal port (my case has 2 USB 3 ports), is there a way to connect them both to my mobo?

All these things they don't list in the description :/

EDIT: Just been reading about my board on the manufacturer's site and it says:

Chipset:
Up to 6 USB 3.0/2.0 ports (4 ports on the back panel, 2 ports available through the internal USB header)
Up to 8 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 6 ports available through the internal USB headers)

So I can connect both my case's USB 3 ports to the board?
This is the board in question

I don't think this board supports SD Card readers does it? Or am I wrong in thinking that (future planned upgrade)

This Motherboard has only 1 provision so I guess you cannot connect both.

Its official spec sheet says this on the site
Chipset:
Up to 6 USB 3.0/2.0 ports (4 ports on the back panel, 2 ports available through the internal USB header)
Up to 8 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 6 ports available through the internal USB headers)

I checked the motherboard layout, I found only 1 connector on board for USB 3.0 and saw 3 USB 2.0 connectors

Your case will come with connectors that connect to the motherboard and power the power on/off, reset, and USB ports.

This isn't Gigabyte's first model, so don't worry - the USB 3.0 ports will work.

Consult your motherboard manual to find out where to land the case connectors. You will figure it out with a little reading.

Once you have everything plugged in right, provided the CD drive works, you should be able to just pop in the windows CD and it will automatically work. Things are quite a bit easier nowadays. We used to have to occasionally use a floppy disk and the old DOS code.

You can also create a DRM on a thumb drive to install windows even faster, but that will require a second computer and quite a bit more explaining. You will do fine with the Windows disk.

And a couple words of advice :

* Make sure to install ONE motherboard standoff for each and every screw hole in the motherboard. Too many or too few can cause major problems (like a broken motherboard)
* Installing your CPU and thermal paste is one of the most critical parts of the job. Make sure you read up on how to properly install thermal paste and don't use too much...
* A handful of small zip ties can really help for cable management. You should be able to find some online or at your local auto parts store.
* If your case doesn't come with a BIOS beep speaker, you should get one. They can be found for around 5$.

Have fun!

I know the USB 3.0 will work, just want to know how many the board will support (other than the 4 on the back)

As I said earlier, you can connect 1 USB 3.0 from your tower which is in front as your board has only 1 provision. I have checked the layout. You can see your manual which has the layout as well, 1 is only supported

Well, strange as though it might sound, when I plug the cable that came connected to my computer case into the single USB front port found on my Gigabyte motherboard, both USB ports work.

If you look at the connector - it's not a usb port. It's a connector that powers multiple USB ports. So the 1:1 ratio isn't applicable here. But yea, it's one connector - I understand that.

If you read the motherboard specs it says 6x 3.0 USB ports, 2 available through the internal USB header - that goes to the front panel ;)

2 is standard on the front of a case. Gigabyte has been doing it that way for years.

Okay may be I understood it wrong. I thought 1 slot will support only 1 USB 3.0 port >.<

Which was my understanding as well, so it's not just you :D

I don't think it works quite that way, I think its an either/or scenario. You either get 2 x 3.0 ports, or 6 x 2.0 ports from the internal header. That means it will power up to six USB devices, but you lose the 3.0 bandwith speed if you do it that way.

In other words, if you set it up right, you get 6 x 3.0 USB ports - 2 on the front panel, 4 on the back (the blue ones). AND you get 2 x 2.0 USB ports on the back in addition (the black ones). Total of 8 USB ports. Keep in mind your case has to support USB 3.0, or the ports turn into 2.0 ports also.

Anyway I think I'm braindead now and done with the forums for now lol

My case has 2 x USB 2.0 ports and 2 x USB 3.0 ports. Connections are 1 x USB 3.0 header and 2 x USB 2.0 header. If it's as Adroid describes then I'll obviously go with USB 3.0. RMAing the board would be too much effort over two ports. Anyway we'll see in 48 hours when I get building (still waiting on a few parts, like my processor. Just hope there are no DOA parts.

What's the best order to put stuff together in? RAM, Mobo and processor would be first I'm guessing
